Honda has forayed into the now-burgeoning 125 cc scooter segment with its Activa 125 in April 2014. This move can be described as a logical step up for its 110 cc model. The Activa 125 comes out as an impressive machine and sports a refreshing new look.
The headlight unit is more angular and has a compact gloss black visor. The clear-lens indicators have been moved from their traditional position flanking the headlamp. The indicators have a new look. It also gets twin faux air vents around the chrome bar.
The pillion foot pegs are new and there is a new side panel that runs beneath the long saddle. The rear has a massive grab rail and a large tail light assembly.
The new Activa 125 has a 124.9 cc, single cylinder engine. This air cooled unit generates 8.6 bhp of power at 6500 rpm and 10.12 Nm of torque at 5500 rpm. The Activa 125 has a 190 mm single disc up front and a 130 mm drum brake in the rear.
The Honda Activa comes in attractive colours of Geny Grey, Wild Purple, Black, Candy Lucid Red and Pearl Sunbeam White.
The instrument cluster is a mix of analogue and digital. While the speedometer houses a big analogue dial, the small digital display shows fuel level and the odometer reading. The amber back-lit instrument cluster is very well laid out. A sleek and stylish inner box, a flat foot board and a hook enhances the storage capacity for sundry items like water bottles and grocery packets.
The Honda Activa mileages of 55 kmpl even in the city roads. The scooter takes 10 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 kmph and the top speed is 85 kmph.
The Activa has a 12V, 3 Ah maintenance free batteries, 35w bulb and reflector type headlights, LED brake and tail lights and turn indicators. Besides self start there is provision for kick start. The Activa 125 has a price of Rupees 56,607 for the standard and 62,588 for the deluxe variants.
The physical dimensions of the Activa are 1761 mm length, 765 mm seat height, 1238 mm wheel base and 153 mm ground clearance. The fuel tank has a capacity of 5.3 litre.
The riding comfort, the built quality, the Honda brand name and decent mileages are the plus points of the Activa. The bouncy suspension is a weak point for the Activa. The main competition comes from the likes of the Yamaha Alpha, the Hero Maestro and the TVS Jupiter.
